Kong in Paris

dsc_0532Kong restaurant is a masterpiece of ultramodern franco-japanese design, and it’s at the top of my list of  must visit places in Paris. If you can imagine a japanese street-fashion show set in a kaleidoscopic rooftop greenhouse in the future, the image you conjure may reflect the fittings at Kong. Meticulously fashioned by star designer, Philippe Starck, its vibrant, evocative decor transports one from a city of classic cafes to a daring and excessive new world.

Perched at the top of the old Louis Vuitton building, a few stories up from the Kenzo headquarters, Kong has made itself very much at home at this fashionable address. And with spectacular views of Pont Neuf over the Seine, Kong is a destination not to be missed.

The food is also quite delicious. Chef Richard Pommies’s menu of pan-asian cuisine with a French twist more than lives up to the restaurant’s fabulous surroundings. Try to the filet of veal, and don’t skip the edamame. Prices are on the higher end. Reservations recommended.
